Q: What do Beds, Pies & Fresh Strawberries Have in Common?

Sunday, July 4, 2010

A: They were all part of my day today.

We had a typical Saturday morning for the most part... Busy... I look forward to the day when I can sleep in again. Sparky and Cate were off to the parade in Thomaston with friends and the Axeman had promised the girlies he would put up their pool this weekend so we hit the ground running. Sparky is also spending the weekend with friends of the family in southern Maine so while they were gone I had to finish the laundry so she could have clean underwear. Why didn't she think of this last night as she was packing you ask... Didn't it occur to her that when she opened her drawer and only found one pair she might need to wash some?... Oh, I'm sure it did, but she probably didn't feel like doing it and decided to make it my problem... This backfired since I was doing laundry when I would otherwise be headed to the ATM for her, so her spending money for the weekend is the $6.00 she came home from the parade with...

After she left we went to Dow Furniture in Waldoboro because my parents desperately needed a new mattress & box spring and I needed a new headboard. We had great success, and even got a jump start on looking at sofas. Our bed is currently in front of the only window in our room (This is the only place it fits...) so our old headboard which is solid just blocks out all air circulation so we needed a more open one. I found one in the scratch & dent room for less the $100 and even though I am not thrilled with the color it is stained, I can always paint it later.

After there we stopped at "Beth's Farm Market" in Warren...

I was still bummed that I hadn't found any strawberries so we gave it a shot... Wow, what a place... I'd never been, it was an experience. We found some strawberries and they serve fresh strawberry shortcake so we each ordered one... it was hands down the biggest and by far the best strawberry shortcake I have ever had.

From there we headed to this little country store in Warren my mom read about in Downeast Magazine... Supposedly they have some of the best pie in New England. It is called "The Lincoln Country Store" but only the name is quaint... It is a small grocery store with two gas pumps out front. They carry the typical fare, but they have these pies that looked so good we got two... "Wild Maine Blueberry" and "Raspberry Delight" and they were right these pies were G-O-O-D...good. The crust was amazing and I know we will make the drive for more. I can't wait to sample other kinds.

When we got home the Axeman had the pool set up and Cate was so excited... It is just one of those $300 Wal-Mart pools, but she loves having that pool... Swimming is her favorite part of summer and to be able to jump in off the deck anytime is such a treat for her. I just hope the water warms up in the cool temperatures here... I don't want hot days, but the thought of swimming in 65 degree water is a bit off-putting...

Well, I'm off to bed...
I hope each of you have a wonderful 4th...

Thanks for listening,
