Where Did My Summer Go?...

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

Last year the girlies got tired of asking us for a pool during those hot Tennessee summers and saved up and bought their own... One of the $300 Sam's Club pools, but it does the trick... The pool is kinda like a puppy in that they swore they would take care of it and clean it and buy all the chemicals and filters...  We are zero for three in those areas, but I enjoy it too, so I don't mind much. Plus on those rare occasions all four of us go swimming, memories are always made... You know, the kind that get re-told dozens of times, so I have adjusted to my role of "pool boy"... or in my case "pool mom"... I love our little slightly white-trash pool... When we moved to Maine this summer the first thing the girlies and I begged for was to have their dad set up the pool...

So you can imagine my shock when I awoke to find water running down our driveway... I dashed out side and Paul was draining the pool!!! I was speechless...( for about two seconds...) then I demanded to know what he thought he was doing...

This is the conversation that ensued:

Me: "Just what do you think you are doing?"

Paul: "What does it look like?"

Me: "It looks like you are draining my pool!"

Paul: "Nope, I'm draining the girl's pool. I woke up this morning and it was green,  plus nobody has swam in it for over a week now. Summer's over."

Me: "What??? Summer is not over... It's August for goodness sake... Besides, I was going to swim today."

Paul: "Did you hear the green water part? It would have taken you days to fix it with chemicals. Besides the the temperature of the water was 63 degrees, you have a sweater on right now... You were not going to swim today... Summer in Maine is o.v.e.r."

(I hate it when he fights all reasonably like... In fact, I don't even know if he knew we were fighting...)

Me: "You can't just declare summer over!"
... Right then a V formation of Canadian geese flew over head heading south... the traitorous fowl... All I had left to do was storm into the house... Besides I was cold.... It was 55 degrees out...

Goodbye pool... Goodbye summer... See you again for five minutes in July next year... I'll be the one waiting by my frigid little pool awaiting your arrival...

Thanks for listening,

  1. Dude this is making me so sad. Winter takes over most of fall and spring here (I'm sure you can commiserate). Dang.

  2. Oh, how I long for summer to be over here! I was excited this morning when I left for work (at 6am) and it was 75 degrees....but it'll be 90 when I leave. I just look better in sweaters than swimsuits. I'm sorry about your short summer, though. :(

  3. Oy vey, I've been making blog rounds and it seems a good lot of you have already give up on summer even though there's still a month left. For shame. I'm going to keep dragging this season out for as long as possible!

  4. I love Autumn sweaters, football games, hay rides and lots of candy corn! Bring on the cool nights. "While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease. Gen. 8:22"

  5. I'm sort of ready for summer to be over. The heat is starting to make me cranky.

But then again, the cold tends to make me cranky too...

  6. I can totally understand about the pool. We used to have one at my parents house a few years ago. My husband would do all the cleaning and complain the whole time! Especially since no one really got in it. Not my fault it was always kind of chilly during that time. He took it down 3 years ago when we moved out. My parents now have a swing set for my son, but I think my son would so enjoy that pool right about now.
