Wedding Sneak Peek...

Friday, February 24, 2012

Today I had planned for weeks to be the day that I start to paint the kitchen cabinets... I woke up early, not at all deterred by the rain, knowing it was supposed to end early and the dampness would not be a problem... Alas, my back had other ideas... I couldn't sleep last night so I wandered to the living room where I curled up on the couch and let reruns of Law & Order lull me to sleep... When I woke up this morning I was a little stiff and sore, but otherwise I was fine until about an hour after I got up... I bent over to pick up a newspaper off the living room floor, and didn't stand back up... I was frozen in pain... I don't want to spell out all the (boring) details, other then to say it is a back spasm, and it is painful. I have pills that make me really fuzzy headed I can take or I can sit in one particular spot, in one particular position and be fine... So other then a trip to the doctor and walmart (for the aforementioned fuzzy head stuff and a cart full of other stuff we apparently could not live one more day with out... What is it about Wal-Mart? Does that place have a subliminal cover charge? Do you have to fill a cart in order to leave?) and a trip to the quilt shop (to fulfill a promise to Sparky... I was moving super slow... I'm sure the woman there thought I was nuts!) I have not moved from that spot very often... So much for my ultra productive day... Instead I spent the better part of it on Pintrest... (Where else would a wanna be blogger while away her hours?)

Pintrest has actually been very helpful... As Sparky, Cate and I scour the blogosphere for wedding ideas we can "pin" them on Pinterest and not lose track of the ideas... So i decided to show you a little sneak peek of what we have "pinned" and/or decided on so far...

Location: We chose a local (of course) event hall... She wanted a barn, but that was harder to pull off then it sounds and this place has the "rustic" feel she wants...

 (photos echohillinc.com)

As for the dress, she wanted something simple that would show off her shoulders without showing too much cleavage and without being strapless... Since she plans to wear boots with it she wanted it to be traditional, but not overly "fussy"... Here is what she chose...

(davidsbridal.com)

As for the bridesmaids dresses she wanted then all to match, but to be flattering on each girl who range in sizes from 0-12... She also wanted them to not be overly expensive and something they will wear again... This is what we chose...

(Pintrest)

(target.com)

These are jersey knit "convertible dresses" which is basically a skirt with two long tie attached that can be styles dozens of ways. We found them in the above color at Target.com for less then $35.00 each!

The Invitations...
(weddingchicks.com)
She chose these sweet mason jar inspired invites that are customized into her colors. I love the RSVP card... It is set up like a little mad libs! It kind of sets the fun, casual tone they are going for.

The Guys...
She labored over what to have the guys wear... Until we found this wedding on DIY Bride... She and Jackson like this, so it's a hit!
 (diybride.com)

The Decor... We are mostly doing it ourselves, so we are very glad she choose a rustic, home-spun kind of theme...
How sweet are these for table numbers?
(bridetobe.com)

The Programs...
(intimateweddings.com)
We will continue the mason jar motif on these...

This seemed like a cute idea and compromise...
A "wish" tree

(stylemepretty.com)
His family does "money trees" at weddings... It is a tradition they are really fond of, but Cate isn't, so this is a compromise... People can write little wishes for them on the tags we will provide or they can attach cash to the tree with little ribbons we will provide...

We want to do sparklers for the send-off...
(stylemepretty.com & mydiyweddingday.com)
It just seems like a fun way to end the night.

The Flowers... Most of them will be really simple, but Cate is totally in love with this bouquet so we will try to get it made for her...
(google.com)
We will have the florist do simpler versions for each of the other girls (she has 4 attendants) , but the rest of the flowers we will do ourselves.

Other decor inspiration photos...
(elizabethannedesigns.com)
This is not her cake design, it is in a magazine so I will have to scan it in later for you to see, but we like this table set-up... We won't be outside, so this will be a little different, but similar...

A cute drink station idea...

(google.com)

Guest book table inspiration...
(ablissfulnest.com)
I like the bird cage for cards and I saw some cute ones at Homegoods the other day. I also like the idea of putting a jar of mints here... (although these are actually bubble gum, but we have to do our own clean-up so there will be no bubble gum)

Tables...
We will mostly be working with round tables (as you can tell from above) so picture this general set up on round tables...
( weddingchicks.com)
We won't be doing the fancy napkin thing, but plan to put a menu card at each place with one of three word puzzles (that Sparky has designed) on the back... A mad lib, a search a word or a cryptic puzzle... We will put a little jar of pencils at each table and hopefully if there are any of the seemingly inevitable lag times the guests will find them fun.
For the kids we are doing up a bunch of these...
(ashleyannphotography.com)
To put in a basket on the welcome table...

Well, that's it for today... There are so many more ideas we are working on, but hopefully these will give you the idea of what we are going for. Yes, we have been and will be super busy!

Thanks for listening,

  2. Sorry to hear about your back. Hubby gets those sometimes and it's usually a deep mystery as to what he did to cause it. Love the wedding ideas too. You know my girlie is getting hitched a few months after yours. I really like that brides maid dress.

  5. OH. MY. GOSH. Those bridesmaid dresses are soooooo awesome. Why couldn't I have found them before I sewed up six! But oh well....such is life. I love them. I did check Target over and over so they must be new. I'm so crazy busy with the wedding only 17 days away that I haven't been in blogland hardly at all. I tried to catch up some and do some scheduled posts and check in on people tonight. Your ideas are so cute!
