Festival Madness...

Wednesday, August 4, 2010

This weekend is the 63 Annual Maine Lobster Festival...

This is a BIG deal in these parts...

There is a parade...

With all the craziness that implies...

(note the knee brace... I don't know why but this made me giggle...)

Lobster crate races...

Plus, Concerts, a "Sea Goddess" pageant, a huge Navy vessel (so lots of "Helloooo Sailor"...) and of course the Mid-way...

All in this beautiful setting...

But let's face it...
The Lobster Festival is about Lobster...

Lots of lobster...

Lots & lots of lobster...

Wicked huge tents of people eating lobster...

I personally like my lobster this way...
With a tiny bit of mayo in a roll...

But not just any roll...

See, this one is wrong...

Very, very wrong...
To a true "Mainer" this is a crime scene...

What is all those green bits?
I can forgive the lettuce, but look at that bun....
I know to people from "away" this sounds crazy, but the bun matters folks...
In fact don't look at that bun... Avert your eyes...

All this doesn't matter..
This is the only way you can get lobster at the festival...

Actually... I lied... You can get a "Single Lobster" (shown), a "Twin Lobster" (aka two lobsters), or a "Triple Lobster" (you guessed it... three lobsters...) For the bargain prices of 14.00 for a single, and up to 38.00 for the triple... (Those were last year's prices... they tend to hold pretty steady...)

(Please note, to locals the word "bargain" in that last sentence was a joke, but if those prices sound good to you... Well, hop in your car and head this way...)

Thanks for listening,

PS... Most of these pictures were from the official "Maine Lobster Festival" website or the "Village Soup" site... Except the two lobster roll photos... I got those from a cooking site and in my zeal to show you the right and wrong way I forgot to save a link... and now I can't find it...
