It's All About The Attitude...

Thursday, February 11, 2010

As I have mentioned in the past, we currently live with my step mom. Although 75% of time I really enjoy having three generations living together there have been some adjustments.

One of those adjustments took a long time... but it shouldn't have.

You see, my step mom has two big dogs. They are older dogs, but one of their true joys in life is chasing cats. They love this so much they have literally dragged my step mom across the lawn on her rear end to pursue this passion.

So, of course... we have two cats....

Otis

Sophie

For the entire first year we kept the cats and dogs separated. The one time we did try to introduce them there was chasing... and claws... and stressed cats... and injured noses... So we lived for an entire year in a crazy world of dog crates and baby gates... dog free time and cat free time... It was a hassle to say the least. There is nothing like hurdling over baby gates at 3AM to go to the bathroom...

About a year ago I'd had it... and declared they were just going to have to learn to live with each other. I couldn't do "hurdles" anymore... Do you want to know how long it took for them to declare "peace" with each other?

THREE DAYS!

Yep.. a whole year of gate jumping to prevent three days of bedlam... Aghhhhh....

By the end of the first day the dogs gave up chasing.. by the end of the first week our female cat (Sophie) had completely stopped hissing... and by the end of the second our male cat (Otis) had stopped running.... by the end of the month Sophie was cleaning the dogs faces... In fact if you asked me who the "alpha dog" is in our house.. I'd say Sophie...

Just take a look at the photo evidence...

PS. I plan to make tomorrows "Five Favorites Friday" a McLinky party... It's a "come as you are party" I'll explain more tomorrow... just think of five things that are making you smile this week... See you tomorrow.

Thanks for listening,
