Five Favorites Friday... Wedding Edition

Friday, March 16, 2012

I think I simultaneously bored all my readers... Yesterday as of 8 PM I had zero page views... That has never happened on a day I posted... I guess even I wouldn't want to read my weepy narrative on the fears I have about an empty nest... In an effort to perk things up a bit, I thought I'd revisit one of my favorite weekly post themes of the past...

So, here goes... These are my favorites right now... Wedding Planning Style...

1. Doing things that are a bit crazy but will make the day special and unique...
Like a "Nacho Bar"
One of Jackson and Cate's favorite foods are Nachos so we plan to do a nacho bar at their wedding. We found a little "chocolate" fountain for 5.99 at Goodwill last week and plan to see if we can get it to work for the cheese, but may have to fall back to a crock-pot. Since we won't have a "cocktail hour" (because their won't be alcohol at the wedding) but do need to find a way to fill that hour when the ceremony ends and the pictures are being taken we came up with a plan. We are planning to set up a nacho bar and put little trays of appetizers on each table for people to share. We decided on a small veggie tray and a tray with spinach cucumber dip (a family summertime favorite) w/ baguette to snack on.

2. Pre-Invitation Seating Chart...

No, this is not the actual seating chart... But why do one before you even send out the invites you ask? Well, they go out very soon and we will start hearing back. We are very limited by space and budget so here is where I confess... We have an "A" list and a much longer "B" list. If we do a seating chart in advance when we hear someone can't make it we can choose strategically from the "B" list who will best fill in without having to shuffle the whole room. I know this sounds kinda cold, but Jackson has a huge family and a lot of family friends and they don't all get along... This chart already helped his mom decide who to put on the "A" list... We have a little room on our list, but most of our friends are out of state so we will have to wait and see who can make it!

3. Clever Guest Book Ideas...

I found all of the following ideas in about five minutes time by searching "guest book" on pintrest... (I am not taking the time to source all these photos if you are not on pintrest and want to know the source of one, just let me know... I'll pass it on!)

The Birthday Calendar...
Cate wants to do this one.

 Heirloom Bench...
Cute idea, but I could see this getting burdensome by year 10 or so...

Jenga! Such a cute idea!

A scrapbook full of envelopes for your guests to put messages in...
I have seen this one done as a bulletin board full too...
They took the envelopes off it after the reception and tied all the envelopes with a pretty ribbon to be read later.

Vintage typewriter for your guests to type you a little wish...
I saw this on one with super lung paper that they rolled into a scroll for cute storage.

Leaf Print...
Too Cute!

Surf board anyone?
Sparky found a guitar one that was similar...
So many things you can sign...
Who knew?

There is tons of "thumb print" art ideas...
Here are some of my favorites...

I want to do this one!
Super Cute Idea!
This is the one I see everywhere!

Do you collect rocks or just like the look of them in pretty  vases?
I think seashells would be fun too...
Perfect for "beach" theme weddings.

Old LPs... So clever, especially for a "classic rock" type of couple!

This one is so simple and DIY friendly...
And like so many of the others...
CUTE!

Custom monogram artwork?
Please and Thank You!
I saw one that was the couples initials
(ex: J & C)

4. Clever Photo Poses...
I also see these all over Pinterest and the following ideas are from there...
Love this one!

 Lots of "Save the Date"Ideas...

I wish we had thought to do some back in the day...

These are just so fun!

The "Thank You" idea...
Just print up and your Thank you cards will be saved forever...

Yep... Love this idea...

If you are a blogger (or not a blogger) and not on pintrest I am about to rock your world! Pintrest is where you form "boards" of all those clever ideas so you can (theoretically) go back and do them someday...

There is so much to see on pintrest just looking at other people's "pins" and "repinning"...
But that is just the start...

You can also get a little button for your toolbar that says "Pin It" and as you are blog hopping or shopping, or anywhere online really if you see something cute, or a good idea or a recipe you want to try, you click "Pin It", pick a photo from the choices given and theta picture and the link to it are now yours forever... Three years from now when you try to remember how to make the book-page wreath, just refer to your pintrest and it will take you to the tutorial link you pinned... Genius!

Well, ladies, that's what I am loving these days...

Thanks for listening,

  1. We went to a wedding last summer where they had us sign a bench the bride's dad had made. Cute idea but they had some trouble with pens leaking and I wonder over time if the print would hold. Course, how often do I get out my guest book and look at it? I like the thumbprint house and the birthday calendar is cute too.

I wouldn't stress about followers and readers...you'll be glad you have your thoughts saved and think how much your own girls will enjoy reading something like this when they are getting ready to be empty nesters too.

I have a super busy couple of weeks coming up so not a lot of online time...I do try to always read here but sometimes its on the fly and I don't take the extra minutes to comment. Have you looked in to the A-Z challenge (link is on my blog)...I got a lot of visitors last year participating in that one. Huge huge range of style and blog type but there is something for everyone. You might want to take a peek.

  2. Super cute and clever. I like the idea of a guestbook that serves a decorative/ artsy function, because otherwise, who really looks at them later, right? And BTW, your counter was fritzy, because I visited your blog yesterday, I just didn't have time to comment 'til today.

  3. You always seem to find the coolest stuff online. I love the bench. This would be a great visual reminder of their special day. It would definitely come in handy one those days when they may need reminding of how their love/marriage is for life. I also like the thank you card with the couple kissing holding the thank you sign. Lovely!

  5. Pinterest is an evil time sucker! I know, I spend a lot of time there! Haha! Our oldest daughter painted a tree for the guests to thumbprint. Molly has divided a canvas into little squares. We didn't do the 'save the date' thing--decided to 'save our postage!' LOL! Happy Planning!
